Recognise the opportunities of the smart grid

At HEAT 08, Sentec presented an overview of Smart Grid developments across the world, and the implications for manufacturers of home energy products, including microgeneration, home displays, appliances and energy storage systems.

With the rapid roll out of smart meters in western markets, smart grids are now coming closer to implementation: large scale trials are already taking place in the US.  These can change the relationship between consumers and utilities and the opportunities for providing consumers with more information and control of their energy production and consumption are immense.

Manufacturers of home energy products are well placed to take advantage of these opportunities, but they must start addressing the technical challenges now to have products that are ready for the next generation of power production and distribution.
