Exactus – Patented & Licensed Technology

The internal combustion engine will be with us for the foreseeable future. Tighter emission and fuel economy regulations are driving improvements, particularly in fuel injection. High performance injectors use piezo–electric actuator technology. However, this is too expensive for many applications. Sentec has developed Exactus, an innovative technology combining a flux switch actuator with closed loop control which delivers piezoelectric performance at a cost comparable to a solenoid. This will enable the design of cleaner and more economical engines.

Performance

  • Exactus actuators provide up to twice the force of a standard solenoid for a given cross-sectional area. This allows compact fuel injectors to be designed which will suit applications with limited space.
  • Exactus partially opens the fuel valve to a stable, controlled intermediate position. This allows extremely low fuel quantities to be delivered reliably (0.3mg/pulse), accommodating the widest range of engine loads.
  • Exactus’ partial lift capability avoids open stop bounce and non linearity thus providing excellent shot to shot repeatability over the full dynamic range.
  • Exactus provides precise injection rate shaping capability.
  • Excellent repeatability (3*σ/μ < 2% @ 0.5mg/pulse).
  • The excellent level of feedback combined with the actuator’s linear control performance enables closed loop control and injector to injector performance matching.
  • Even faster closing times can be achieved by reversing the drive current.
  • Exactus technology contributes to satisfying CARB LEV III and Euro 7 at a cost which provides significant competitive advantage.

Working with Exactus

Exactus technology is now patented in all major European markets. Several other patent filings are still in process. Sentec agreed a licence to a Tier 1 manufacturer for natural gas injection and is now seeking further Tier1 partners to bring the technology to market in the gasoline direct injection and diesel fields. Sentec welcomes the opportunity to work with car makers and fuel injector manufacturers and offers support for application development. Prototype GDI injectors are available for evaluation purposes.
