For the energy and water industries, our work in areas such as smart metering innovation, energy displays and other energy management tools provide what the sector needs: smart meters – for water, gas and electricity - which are accurate, robust and low power. Grid interfaces which are reliable, cost competitive and intelligent. Consumer energy displays which are engaging, reliable and easy to incorporate into AMR and back office systems.
Smart metering success
Our technology has seen over 1 billion hours of service in existing products and is now being integrated into new products for water, gas and electricity markets across the world, enabling the introduction of smart meters and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
New product development
We have strong relationships with many global manufacturers of smart meters, payment systems and other utilities products, whose input we seek at an early stage in the development process to ensure we are creating solutions that are appropriate for their target markets.
We also invest significant effort in talking to end-customers through various trade bodies and direct meetings, and working with respected commentators and researchers to evaluate the potential for our advanced metering solutions. Such information gathering continues in parallel with the technical development of smart metering products to ensure our solutions deliver real benefits.
The commercial exploitation process for our technologies varies. In some instances, we grant licenses on a non-exclusive basis by territory and application. In others, we license to one partner who has a strong worldwide position. In many cases, we provide contract engineering support to our partners to develop our technology for specific application and product variants.
