Coracle: a new level of information on energy consumption

For example, in trials Coracle has been able to identify households with overnight usage way above expectations, spot fridges and ovens which are faulty, and pick out users with energy hungry electric showers.
These are not just one off findings: Coracle allows utilities to provide regular updates for their customers and develop products that better meet their needs.

Coracle is designed as a lightweight system which can be easily incorporated into the processing of a typical smart meter design and will require no extra sensing input.
Lightweight and flexible, it can be used to meet existing AMI requirements. For example, pre-processing reduces the volume of data coming out of each meter to a convenient size, so that many options are available for transmitting and analysing it.
Multiple touchpoints
From there, there are many choices about how information and advice can be delivered to customers:
- Branded displays
- Personalised energy updates, delivered via SMS, email, website, post or to the display
- New tariffs and services based on deeper information
- System upgrades
Coracle can also be integrated into household displays that use clip on sensors, for households or utilities that wish to adopt household displays ahead of widespread smart metering adoption.
